Employees at Penduka

In 2007 all volunteers will become part time employees of Penduka. Following the Namibian Labour Act we have to offer our volunteers a contract and start paying Social Security contributions. In Penduka TB we rely on community volunteers every day. Daily 14 treatment supporters are giving support to 13 groups of TB patients. Twice a week 12 activity trainers are training our unemployed TB patients in handicraft skills. Our treatment supporters and activity trainers are mainly former TB patients themselves.

In Katutura Penduka is supporting 440 TB patients with skills training and gardening during the course of their six-months treatment.

Apart from this approx 270 women are doing our embroidery. 55 are living in Katutura and  the others in the Otjozondjupa region. All women receive a fair payment for the embroidery done by them.

PENDUKA's products are sold in Europe. In The Netherlands we work together with the association Penduka Multicultural, while in Norway Isandi sells our products. We closely cooperate with our Namibian-Finnish partner Pambili. "Pambili" is an Rukwangali word meaning "in peace".

Pambilishop works together with fair trade, industrial art and development cooperation organisations.
